Michelin Picks Houston to Announce Which Texas Restaurants Are Good
Score one for Houston. The famed Michelin Guide will be announcing its first-ever picks for best restaurants in Texas in Space City, passing over its eternal rival, Dallas.
The guide, famous for its iconic star ratings and tire man mascot, says it’ll announce which restaurants in Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, and Fort Worth will get a famous star or another award.
Michelin has infamously overlooked Texas cuisine for years, but in July, they announced that they’d finally come to Texas and give us some damn stars.
Just getting one Michelin star is a big deal, which you’d know if you’ve ever watched “The Bear,” and three stars means that your restaurant is basically heaven on earth.
They also give out Michelin Green stars to eco-friendly eateries, as well as Bib Gourmand awards to more affordable spots.
Michelin published its first American guide, to New York City, in 2005. It has since expanded into California, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Colorado, and Florida.
Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide, heaped praise on H-Town, saying the city is “full of culinary innovation and world-class hospitality, which goes hand in hand with our values at The Michelin Guide.”
And Houston boosters, as you might imagine, are thrilled to be hosting the event.
“Over the last two decades, our city has emerged as a food mecca, fostering skilled hometown chefs and restaurateurs while simultaneously drawing exceptional talent from across the globe,” said Michael Heckman, President and CEO of the marketing group Houston First.
Take that, Dallas! Just kidding, you’re both tasty.
