With fewer than two weeks left until NFL football kicks off, former Oklahoma Sooner CeeDee Lamb just made history for the Dallas Cowboys.

The 25-year-old wide receiver’s new contract runs through the 2028 season, and could pay a maximum of $136 million, including a $38 million signing bonus and $100 million guaranteed. The deal makes Lamb the second highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, second only to the Minnesota Vikings’ Justin Jefferson.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had been stuck in a staredown with Lamb over the wide receiver’s contract. Lamb had been playing for the team under his rookie deal after being drafted as the 17th overall pick in 2020, but he’d been holding out for more money. Well, today, Jerry Jones blinked, ESPN reports. Because of his holdout, Lamb went from playing under an $18 million fifth-year rookie option to being guaranteed nine-figures. Lamb has racked up 3,396 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns in his three-year career. He has also broken team records and has more receiving yards than hall-of-famer Michael Irvin, who was on the Cowboys’ Super Bowl-winning teams in the 90s.

Expect Lamb on the field against the Cowboys’ opener against the Cleveland Browns on September 8. For now, no word yet on the other major contract the Jones’ are holding out on: Dak Prescott. (Oh, and, of course, the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders who still get paid only $500 per game. We’re still hoping they’ll unionize, tbh.)
