Texas Man Buys, Then Publicly Destroys, $4,000 Taylor Swift Guitar
Somebody—well, a man—bought a perfectly good Taylor Swift guitar just to smash it up.
It happened recently in Waxahachie at the Ellis County Wild Game Dinner, where a man paid a reported $4,000 for the guitar (plus a wall hanger), according to WFAA.
But the winner brought a hammer on stage.
In a video, the man takes the guitar, which is decorated with images from Swift’s Eras Tour, and smashes it while the crowd roars in approval. One man can be heard yelling, “Hell yeah!”
After the outburst ended, the auctioneer dryly added: “I guess we don’t need the wall hanger.”
It’s hard to imagine there’s no connection between this raucous performance of anger and Taylor Swift’s recent endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris in her presidential bid. Always the adult in the room, former president Donald Trump responded to Swift’s support for Harris and Tim Walz by posting “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
As one attendee, Rob Bartley, told The Independent: “It was unexpected, but not surprising. This part of Texas leans heavily conservative and the Biden/Harris administration isn’t held in high regard.
After the video went viral, an organizer said he was surprised by the online reaction.
“It wasn’t meant to be mean or malicious,” Ellis County Wild Game spokesperson Craig Meier told WFAA. “He was just making a lighthearted statement showing disapproval of people in the entertainment industry trying to influence politics.”
He added that the “crowd thought it was hilarious.”
