Texas prides itself on being cordial; our road signs even say “[Drive Friendly — The Texas Way](https://www.kxan.com/news/texas/where-did-the-drive-friendly-the-texas-way-highway-signs-come-from/?ref=thebarbedwire.com).”

Rude behavior is for those states up north, not here … right?

Not so fast, because we’ve got four cities in a survey of the top rudest in the U.S. That’s according to the education tutoring company Preply, [which surveyed Americans across 46 cities on a number of topics, including politeness](https://preply.com/en/blog/rudest-cities-2024/?ref=thebarbedwire.com). [KXAN found the study](https://www.kxan.com/news/texas/which-texas-city-is-the-rudest/?ref=thebarbedwire.com), which determined that Houston had a rudeness score of 8.04 out of 10 — that makes it the rudest city in Texas, and 13th overall. Close behind was Austin, at #19\. (That’s a jump from two years ago when Preply did a similar study in 2022.) Dallas clocked in at 18th rudest and Fort Worth was 29th.

The top five rudest behaviors, according to the survey were: lack of self-awareness; talking on speakerphone in public; being loud in shared spaces; watching videos or listening to music in public; and lack of care for others.

The rudest city in the U.S. [is Miami](https://www.axios.com/local/miami/2024/08/30/miami-is-the-rudest-city?ref=thebarbedwire.com), with a truly impressive rudeness score of 9.88\. The runner up was Philadelphia with a less-impressive 9.12\. The least-rude cities, according to Preply, were Omaha, NE, Minneapolis, MN, and San Diego, CA.
