# The Fires of Hell Aren’t as Hot as This Early Texas Heat Wave

UPDATE: The early heat wave broke daily records Wednesday — [Austin](https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/14/weather/texas-heat-record-may.html?ref=thebarbedwire.com) hit 101 degrees, [Houston hit 96 degrees](https://www.click2houston.com/weather/2025/05/14/houstons-summer-heat-wave-has-arrived-record-setting-temps-likely-all-week/?ref=thebarbedwire.com), San Antonio may have been one of the [hottest places on the planet](https://www.ksat.com/video/news/2025/05/12/san-antonio-could-be-one-of-the-hottest-places-on-the-globe-by-wednesday/?ref=thebarbedwire.com). Closer to the boarder, Del Rio International Airport hit [106 degrees](https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=EWX&issuedby=EWX&product=AFD&format=CI&version=4&glossary=1&ref=thebarbedwire.com). Summertime temperatures have unfortunately come early to Texas. Some cities are bracing for triple-digit, potentially record-breaking temperatures this week.

The heat is expected to build Monday afternoon, with the highest temperatures expected on Wednesday afternoon, [*KVUE*](https://www.kvue.com/article/weather/forecast/weather-impact-alert-triple-digits-central-texas/269-d9c98340-a109-4677-9f2b-8cdfbe1db10a?ref=thebarbedwire.com)reported. In Austin, temperatures may reach a high between 100 and 102 degrees, while Hill County spots like Llano and Johnson City could see a high of 107 degrees, according to the outlet.

This would be the eighth May since 1898 when Austin has had over 100-degree weather. The city’s average first triple-digit day falls on July 8, according to *KVUE.* San Antonio will likely see the earliest 100-degree heat wave ever recorded in its history, according to [*KSAT*](https://www.ksat.com/weather/2025/05/11/san-antonio-forecast-triple-digit-heat-wave-after-a-beautiful-mothers-day/?ref=thebarbedwire.com). Energy experts also told the outlet that they’re confident the Texas power grid can withstand the hottest days of the year so far.
